In Prey for the Devil (2022), a nun prepares to perform an exorcism and comes face to face with a demonic force with mysterious ties to her past.
The supernatural horror thriller centers on Sister Ann, who believes she is answering a calling to be the first female exorcist… but who, or what called her? In response to a global rise in demonic possessions, Ann seeks out a place at an exorcism school reopened by the Catholic Church. Until now these schools have only trained priests in the Rite of Exorcism – but a professor recognizes Sister Ann’s gifts and agrees to train her. Thrusting onto the spiritual frontline with fellow student Father Dante, Sister Ann finds herself in a battle for the soul of a young girl, who Sister Ann believes is possessed by the same demon that tormented her own mother years ago. Determined to root out the evil, Ann soon realizes the Devil has her right where he wants her.
This is the new movie from the director Daniel Stamm, who is not new to the subject since he was behind the popular title The Last Exorcism (2010). He was also responsible for the horror thriller 13 Sins (2014). Robert Zappia, the writer of Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998), has been the author of the screenplay from a story by Todd R. Jones and Earl Richey Jones.
The main cast is formed by Jacqueline Byers, Virginia Madsen, Christian Navarro, Colin Salmon, Nicholas Ralph, Ben Cross, Lisa Palfrey, Debora Zhecheva, Posy Taylor, and Cora Kirk.
