This year we won’t be safe from gigantic megalodon sharks ruining our vacations. If we still have to wait until August for the release of Jason Statham’s aquatic adventures in The Meg 2: The Trench (2023), this weekend we can warm up the motors with The Black Demon (2023).

This edge-of-your-seat action thriller centers on an idyllic family vacation that turns into a nightmare when they encounter a ferocious megalodon shark that will stop at nothing to protect its territory. Stranded and under constant attack, Paul and his family must somehow find a way to get his family back to shore alive before it strikes again in this epic battle between humans and nature.

Adrian Grunberg, who has been behind the adrenalinic action flicks Get the Gringo (2012) and Rambo: Last Blood (2019), is the director of The Black Demon (2023). Carlos Cisco (Star Trek: Discovery (2017–2024) TV series) and Boise Esquerra (Blackwater (2019– ) TV series) have been the writers of the screenplay.

Josh Lucas, the winner of the Best Actor award at the Gold Movie Awards for his performance in the mystery thriller Murderous Trance (2018), plays the father of the Sturges family. Fernanda Urrejola, Héctor Jiménez, Julio Cesar Cedillo, Raúl Méndez, Venus Ariel, and Jorge A. Jimenez complete the main cast.

The Black Demon (2023) is coming out in selected theaters on April 28, 2023. You can check the venues on the official site of the distributor The Avenue.
