Canadian actress Katharine Isabelle might not be very popular by the name, but she surely deserves a tiny space in the heart of horror fans thanks to her amazing performance in the classic movie Ginger Snaps (2000) and its two sequels. A very prolific performer in horror productions since an early age, with titles incuding Bones (2001), Insomnia (2002), Carrie (2002), Freddy vs. Jason (2003), 30 Days of Night: Dark Days (2010), American Mary (2012), 13 Eerie (2013), or See No Evil 2 (2014), as well as having participated in the cult TV series The X-Files (1993–2018), The Outer Limits (1995–2002), and a recurrent role in Hannibal (2013–2015), every movie she stars in deserves some attention. Her latest work is science-fiction and mystery drama The Green Sea (2021), where she plays the lead role.
In it, Katharine Isabelle is Simone, an American writer living a solitary life in the remote Irish countryside. She is haunted by visions of an ominous past that become intertwined with the mysterious world of her new novel, and the lines between reality and fantasy soon begin to blur. When a car accident leads to a chance encounter with a young teenage girl, known only as “Kid”, things begin to get stranger and stranger and both their lives are about to change forever. Offering the lost teen a place to stay, the pair strike up an unlikely friendship, can Simone protect her from the nefarious Collector who seems to be searching for “Kid”, and who really is this mysterious girl? This sets up the beginning of an unlikely relationship, ultimately setting off a chain of events that will force Simone to face her sinister past.
After a few short films, The Green Sea (2021) is the debut feature film by Randal Plunkett, for which he is the producer, editor, writer and director. The main cast is completed with Hazel Doupe, Dermot Ward, Amy-Joyce Hastings, Michael Parle, Jenny Dixon, Ciaron Davies, and Elena Tully.
