In The Empty Man (2020), an ex-cop who is following the trail of a missing girl comes across a secretive group attempting to summon a terrifying supernatural entity.

The movie is based on Cullen Bunn and Vanesa R. Del Rey‘s graphic novel of the same name published by Boom! Studios, and created in 2014 with 6 original issues, after which had a follow-up in 2018–2019 of 8 extra numbers.

In the adaptation, after a group of teens from a small Midwestern town begin to mysteriously disappear, the locals believe it is the work of an urban legend known as The Empty Man. As a retired cop investigates and struggles to make sense of the stories, he discovers a secretive group and their attempts to summon a horrific, mystical entity, and soon his life and the lives of those close to him are in grave danger.

The movie has been written for the screen and directed by David Prior, an awards-winner short film and documentary director known for having collaborated with prestigious filmmakers like Michael Bay and David Fincher in popular films as Fight Club (1999), Pearl Harbor (2001), Panic Room (2002), Zodiac (2007), and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011). Now, he is debuting with his first feature film.

James Badge Dale, Stephen Root, Joel Courtney, Marin Ireland, Aaron Poole, Aaron Poole, Samantha Logan, Evan Jonigkeit, Jessica Matten, and Ron Canada form the main cast.

Filming for The Empty Man (2020) started on August 31, 2017, in Edwardsville, Illinois. It is scheduled to be theatrically released on October 23, 2020, by 20th Century Studios.
