The Education of Fredrick Fitzell (2020) might not be the kind of movie when you think of the horror and science-fiction scene, but it has a fantasy background that totally fits the genre. Because after a chance encounter with a man forgotten from his youth, the main character in this story, Fredrick Fitzell, literally and metaphorically journeys into his past.
With a corporate job, a steady relationship, and a sick mother, Fred’s chance encounter with a man from his youth leads to frightening memories. Little by little, he unravels a mystery that has been hidden for years about a missing girl, a drug called Mercury, and a terrifying creature who has accompanied him every step of the way. Past, present and future intertwine, and Fred begins to explore all the possible lives he could lead. Which one will he choose?
The movie has been written and directed by Christopher MacBride, known for the horror-thriller surrounding an ancient and dangerous secret society The Conspiracy (2012). Dylan O’Brien, Maika Monroe, Hannah Gross, Keir Gilchrist, Emory Cohen, and Amanda Brugel form the main cast.
Filming of The Education of Fredrick Fitzell (2020) took place in Toronto between September 24, 2018, and October 2018. The movie is taking part in the Sitges Film Festival this weekend where it is nominated for the Official Fantàstic Competition award for Best Motion Picture. Here you can watch its official trailer.
