Like if Alexandre Aja’s Crawl (2019) met John Carpenter’s Ghosts of Mars (2001) with a little bit of Andrew Davis’ The Fugitive (1993), The Flood (2023) is called to be one of the refreshing monster creature titles of the summer.
The movie centers on a daring jailbreak during a dangerous Louisiana hurricane that is interrupted by a horde of giant hungry alligators.
Casper Van Dien of Starship Troopers (1997) and Mad Heidi (2022) fame leads a cast that also includes Nicky Whelan, Louis Mandylor, Randy Wayne, Ryan Francis, Devanny Pinn, Kim DeLonghi, and Mike Ferguson.
Brandon Slagle, the awards-winner filmmaker responsible for other action and horror titles like Vivid (2011), Area 51 Confidential (2011), The Black Dahlia Haunting (2012), House of Manson (2014), Crossbreed (2019), The Dawn (2019), Attack of the Unknown (2020), and Frost (2022), is the director of The Flood (2023). Chad Law, the writer of a long list of thrillers including Hero Wanted (2008), The Hit List (2011), 6 Bullets (2012), Drive Hard (2014), Isolation (2015), Daylight’s End (2016), The Shadow Effect (2017), Black Water (2018), Hollow Point (2019), and The Getback (2023), and Josh Ridgway, the writer of The Sector (2016), Howlers (2019), Miss Willoughby and the Haunted Bookshop (2021), and Section 8 (2022), have been the authors of the screenplay.
The Flood (2023) is Rated R for violence, some gore, and language throughout.
