A grieving wife summons a dark spirit in "Candyman"-like "The Reaper Man"

Candyman (1992) was a gothic supernatural horror film that became a cult film and was the source for a series of sequels and a recent remake. It told the story of a murderous soul with a hook for a hand who is accidentally summoned to reality by a skeptic grad student researching the monster’s myth. Who can forget that urban legend that says if you say out loud Candyman’s name five times in front of a mirror he is coming back to life? Well, that was never forgotten, and now it is the source of inspiration for a new horror film.

In The Reaper Man (2023), a grieving wife summons a dark spirit with an insatiable desire for revenge.

Jaron Lockridge is the executive producer, writer, director, and, due to its very limited budget, jack-of-all-trades in the movie. he is better known for the titles Close Caption (2021), Succuba (2022), and Down Bad: Life in the Hood (2023). Harlee Lowder, Kenon Walker, K.J. Baker, DeAndre Grafton, Brandon Russell, Jessica Jai Johnson, Ebony Bivens, and Coley Bryant form the main cast.

The movie had its premiere at the Denton Black Film Festival on January 27, 2023, and now it is scheduled for a release on digital platforms on April 18, 2023, by Gravitas Ventures.
