Breath (2022) is the kind of movie that perhaps you shouldn’t watch if you suffer from claustrophobia. Like it is in my case, I have a big terror of small locked spaces or trapped bodies. I had a hard time watching a movie like The Descent (2005) but not because of the weird creatures, that was the fun part, but because of the small caves without an exit. Anyway, let’s not get lost in focus.
In Breath (2022), Lara Winslet is an expert geologist in volcanology. She is together with her team of work on a volcano to conduct surveys. At the end of a working day, Lara decides to stay a little longer to finish an exam and she remains so alone. Returning, she has an accident, falling inside a hole in the ground and remains blocked inside there, where no one can neither see nor hear her. This experience will lead her to take an examination of her whole life and to think of her daughter.
This is the new movie from awards-winner filmmaker John Real, who has gained some international prestige with titles like Native (2011), Obsessio (2019), and The Music Box (2018). He’s also the writer of the screenplay together with his sister and frequent collaborator Adriana Marzagalli.
Rachel Daigh, who has collaborated before with the director, is the star in Breath (2022). James Cosmo, a veteran actor who has been in supporting roles in popular movies like Highlander (1986), Braveheart (1995), Troy (2004), and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005), Neb Chupin, and Alba Di Mauro complete the main cast.
The movie was released on digital on May 3, 2022, by Uncork’d Entertainment. Here you can watch the trailer for Breath (2022).
