As if getting pregnant weren’t complicated enough, Lucy sets out to uncover the unsettling truth about her fertility doctor. That is the headline used to advertise the horror-thriller False Positive (2021), a movie that is said to be a contemporary take on Roman Polanski’s horror classic masterpiece Rosemary’s Baby (1968). Okay, I’m sold, I’m already in!
After months of trying and failing to get pregnant, Lucy and Adrian finally find their dream fertility doctor in the illustrious Dr. Hindle. But after becoming pregnant with a healthy baby girl, Lucy begins to notice something sinister through Hindle’s gleaming charm, and she sets out to uncover the unsettling truth about him, and her own “birth story.” As if getting pregnant weren’t complicated enough.
False Positive (2021) is the upcoming movie directed by John Lee, known for his comedy work having been the director of Pee-wee’s Big Holiday (2016) and several TV productions including the sketches series At Home with Amy Sedaris (2017–2020) for which he was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Awards. He has also been the writer of the screenplay together with the star of the film, Ilana Glazer, another comedian and Primetime Emmy nominated for the TV series Hack Into Broad City (2014– ). But it seems that this time they left the laughs aside to focus on a story filled with mysteries and horrifying events.
The fertility doctor is incarnated by Pierce Brosnan, a former TV star who became a big name playing James Bond in some of the worst films of the saga including The World Is Not Enough (1999) and Die Another Day (2002), but that managed to survive the decadence of the character participating in enjoyable titles like The Ghost Writer (2010), The World’s End (2013), or No Escape (2015). The rest of the cast is formed by Justin Theroux, Sophia Bush, Sullivan Jones, Gretchen Mol, Josh Hamilton, Lucy Walters, Sabina Gadecki, and Francesca Faridany.
False Positive (2021) will have its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 18, 2021. It is set to be released on June 25, 2021, by Hulu. Here you can watch its official trailer.
