A family weekend hunting trip ends very bad in "Whitetail"

Whitetail (2020) is labeled to be a “southern gothic horror”. Not only the movie has been shot in the Texan city of Joshua and its surruondings by a texan filmmaker, but it is also distributed by Texan independent film company Muscular Puppy and it’s upcoming premiere will be at the famous Texas Theatre in Dallas. So with a scenario like thatand with a story and characters clearly influenced by the environment, flaring tempers and warped relationships, the label kind of has a sense.

The movie follows the broken family of Donnie Mann, his father and uncle as they embark on a weekend hunting trip. Donnie’s mother has recently died of an overdose and the trio hope to get away to spend some time in nature and clear their heads. Instead, they find a mysterious man shot in the stomach and clutching onto a backpack full of money.

This is the new movie of writer and director Derek Presley, after his latest film science-fiction Cronus (2017) and his debut feature Ouija 3: The Charlie Charlie Challenge (2016). The main cast is formed by Jason Douglas, Tom Zembrod, Billy Blair, Paul T. Taylor, Ted Ferguson, Jason Coviello, Dash Melrose, and Savannah Solsbery.

As it was mentioned previously, Whitetail (2020) has its world premiere on July 2, 2021 followed by a limited run in select theaters. Trinity Creative Partnership has acquired ancillary rights of the feature for the UK, Turkey and North America, set to be released on Digital, VOD, DVD and Blu-Ray this fall.
