Daniel Isn’t Real (2019) is a horror thriller film directed by Adam Egypt Mortimer, better known for being responsible for the supernatural slasher Some Kind of Hate (2015) and the segment “New Year’s Eve” in the anthology feature Holidays (2016). He was also the writer of the screenplay together with his frequent collaborator Brian DeLeeuw, who also previously wrote the novel the movie is based on.

Daniel Isn’t Real (2019) has been described as a horror take on the ideas thrown in David Fincher’s cult film Fight Club (1999). In it, Luke is a troubled young man who suffers a violent family trauma and resurrects his childhood imaginary friend to help him cope. Charismatic and full of manic energy, Daniel helps Luke to achieve his dreams, before pushing him to the very edge of sanity and into a desperate desperate fight for his own soul.

The movie is starred by Patrick Schwarzenegger, Miles Robbins, Sasha Lane, Hannah Marks, Mary Stuart Masterson, Andrew Bridges, Michael Cuomo, Chukwudi Iwuji, and Cara Ronzetti. Elijah Wood, Daniel Noah, Josh C. Waller, and Lisa Whalen have produced the film, while Timur Bekbosunov, Johnny Chang, Emma Lee, Peter Wong, and Stacy Jorgensen have served as executive producers, under their SpectreVision and ACE Pictures banners, respectively. Principal photography began on July 2018, in New York City.

Daniel Isn’t Real (2019) had its world premiere at South by Southwest on March 9, 2019, where it had a quite good reception. Shortly after, Samuel Goldwyn Films acquired distribution rights to the film. It has also been part of the line-up of festivals like Oak Cliff Film Festival in the USA, Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival in South Korea and tomorrow will be screened at Fantasia International Film Festival in Canada.
